Castle Rock Trail

One of the most popular hiking trails in Big Bear, Castle Rock Trail’s constant incline makes you work for the reward at the end: one of the most stunning views of the lake in all of Big Bear! By the end of this 2.7-mile out-and-back trail, you’ll be able to feast your eyes on sweeping views of Big Bear Lake and the millions of pines that envelop the surrounding woods. Commemorate your hike with a picture of you and your boo at the top, or sit a while on Castle Rock and take in the majesty of the surrounding mountains in each other’s company.

Cougar Crest Trail

If you’re a couple who likes a little bit more of a challenge, Cougar Crest Trail is a good option for you. This 5.6-mile out-and-back trail in the San Bernardino National Forest boasts fantastic views of Big Bear Lake throughout the hike and ends at the juncture of the famous Pacific Crest Trail. But for the best views, continue on from the junction for .6 miles to Bertha Peak. The sweeping views of Big Bear Lake from the peak are not to miss! 

Grand View Summit

As the name implies, you’re in for something truly majestic at the end of this hike! Considered one of the best views of the southern range of the San Bernardinos, this trail meanders through ponderosa groves and wildflower meadows while offering views of Big Bear Lake and the surrounding mountains. Access this breathtaking view by taking the 6.9-mile Pine Knot Trail to the summit. The Pine Knot trailhead is close to the Big Bear Discovery Center, where you can grab your Adventure Pass to access the San Bernardino National Forest  or drop by for a guided hike.

Alpine Pedal Path

Stroll or bike along this fully paved 5.2-mile out-and-back trail offering scenic views of Big Bear Lake. This trail starts on the north shore of Big Bear Lake and truly gives a fine tour of Big Bear, taking hikers past the Cougar Crest Trailhead, several picnic areas, and the Big Bear Discovery Center. From November to April, the Alpine Pedal Path is an excellent place to spot Big Bear’s visiting bald eagle population as well as the skiers and snowboarders on Snow Summit Mountain, one of Big Bear’s ski resorts. 

Boulder Bay Park

This park rests on the shore of Big Bear Lake, offering incredible views of the surrounding San Bernardino National Forest. The park has many picnic tables, so pack your favorite snacks and a bottle of wine, and enjoy a romantic picnic in the heart of Big Bear’s majesty.

On the Lake

Kayaking, Canoeing, jet skis, boat tours, you name it. One of the best ways to take in the majesty of Big Bear is on the water!
